eWater Source is the adopted tool for managing Australia’s scarce and highly variable water resources, making it a crucial tool for climate change adaptation.
Underpinned by world-class science and technical innovation, eWater Source has been adopted across Australia, by government agencies, water utilities and authorities and the private sector to support water planning and management.
eWater Source is used in a wide range of real-world water use situations, both in Australia and internationally, and enables water experts to find the balance between agriculture, industry and growing urban demand while protecting the environment.

eWater Source can produce water assessments and accounts, determine water allocations according to policies, operating rules, legal agreements, and international treaties.
Why use eWater Source™?
Designed for all areas of water management, eWater Source is a national platform used to support water planning, operations and forecasting , including:
- water balance studies from catchment to river basin scale
- analysis of supply and demand balances, including agricultural, hydropower, urban, industrial, and environmental demands
- water quality analysis based on catchment land-use scenarios
- reservoir and river operations, encompassing low to high flow events, salt loads and system optimisation
- urban water system planning, operations, and optimisation, including analysis of different supply options (reservoir/recycling/desalination)
- groundwater-surface interactions.
This modelling platform is fit-for-purpose, robust, reliable, and reproducible.
It can be used for simple or complex projects as required.
eWater Source is about providing water experts with a unique, flexible, and adaptable modelling platform that provides robust technical assessments to inform policy, planning and management actions.
Who uses eWater Source™?
eWater Solutions works with a wide range of stakeholders in Australia and internationally.
In Australia, eWater Source is used by all Australian government agencies, rural water authorities and river managers, urban water utilities, catchment managers, universities and consulting and private sector for their water modelling needs.
We work closely with the Federal Government Department of Climate Change, Energy, and the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), the Murray Darling Basin Authority, the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water, the Victorian Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, Queensland Government, WA Department of Water and environmental Regulation and the ACT Government Department of Environment and Planning.
Internationally, we have worked for many years to support the adoption of Source in the Mekong region, working closely with the Mekong River Commission and the member countries, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Vietnam, and Thailand.
We have also worked with government agencies and ministries in Afghanistan, China, Egypt, India, New Zealand, Nepal, Myanmar and Pakistan and Peru.
We develop and deliver Australia’s National Hydrological Modelling Platform on behalf of all Australian governments.
